WINOL: Bulletin Debrief 16.10.13

News Editor: Zeena Alobaidi

Our guest editor this week was Joe Curtis from the Hampshire Chronicle. He gave us some valuable feedback on our bulletin and highlighted a few issues to improve on:

  • good planning and order of stories
  • great interview with Councillor Keith House surrounding Eastleigh
  • valuable cross promotion of winol.co.uk
  • it’s important to get perspectives from both sides of a story
  • good graphics
  • brilliant stories for http://thejusticegap.com
  • stories need to be closer to Winchester (the package about the wolves was great but realistically it was too far away in Reading)

Ian Anderson elaborated on some of these points:

  • clean bulletin but held back by technicalities such as sound, editing and images
  • nice headlines and well structured packages
  • reporters need to make more use of  natural sounds
  • great interviews but work on framing still needs to be done
  • OOVS (out of vision shots) need to be laid out more clearly in the script
  • there was too much white wall in interviews (reporters and interviewees need to be sat closer together for better visual and sound quality)

I am very pleased with how we are progressing as a production team and as a Winol team as a whole as I believe we are improving every week and taking most feedback on board.
